Canadian Military History - Future Meeting Ideas

The following are some ideas for future Sunday Afternoon History Events. Where it makes sense, there is an attempt to group ideas into higher level related topics.

This is not intended to be a list of topics that the History Club is intending to cover. It is intended to provide some ideas for anyone who might be considering covering a topic, but is unsure what to cover.

If you have any ideas for a future event presentation that you would like to see, please feel free to contact Terry Hunter. The only requirement is that it should be related to Canadian Military History. As you can see from some of the ideas below, there are no restrictions on military related topics, nor time frames (i.e., certainly not just WW1 and WW2).

If you see a topic below, or you have your own topic which you would like to present on, again please contact Terry Hunter.

Canadians in WW1, and Canadians in WW2 North West Europe

Not surprisingly, many of our Military History Events to date have focused on Canadians in WW1, and in WW2 North West Europe. It is expected that many future events will continue in these areas, both from combat and from non-combat perspectives.

Canadians in WW2 - Beyond North West Europe

In addition to Northwest Europe (Dieppe, Normandy, France, Belgium, Liberation of the Netherlands, Germany), Canada fought in nearly every WW2 theater.

These included the North Atlantic (Battle of the Atlantic convoy escort), Italy (brutal mountain warfare), and the Pacific (Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, with the RCN supporting the British Pacific Fleet).

Canadian forces also played crucial roles in air operations and in defending Canadian waters from U-boat attacks, making vital contributions to Allied victory across the globe.

Canada also had the lead role in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP).
